Ocean Discovery: £80 for Two
Imagine spending two and a half hours speeding over open ocean to visit off-shore shoals and reefs, and the fascinating Wolf Rock lighthouse. Going further offshore can increase your chances of seeing all manner of marine life, from migrating and fishing seabirds, to pods of dolphins. Places like the Epson Shoal are very productive areas of the ocean where wildlife often gathers to feed on plankton and fish. As well as porpoises, bottlenose and common dolphins and basking sharks, more unusual species may be encountered such as Risso's dolphins and even giants such as fin, pilot and minke whales. An unforgettable ocean adventure.
As this is a real offshore experience, it can only take place in calm conditions and good visibility and runs on selected dates through the summer and early autumn. Children over twelve are welcome.
Marine Discovery: £70 for Two
Our most popular trip offering something for everyone. An exhilarating two hour ride to discover Penwith's wonderful wildlife, stunning coastline and famous features such as the Minack Theatre. Depending on conditions and recent sightings, you could find yourself exploring the fabulous stacks and cliffs of Lands End via the turquoise waters of Porthcurno, before taking an offshore route via the Runnelstone back to port. Alternatively, our easterly trip goes to the spectacular cliffs and mines around Rinsey Cove, then returns via the offshore reefs. On these trips we have seen seals, many species of seabirds, common, bottlenosed and Risso's dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks, sunfish and many other types of marine life. Truly a marine discovery and worth every penny!
Suitable for children over six
Bay Discovery: £44 for Two
A one hour trip which takes you to Cudden Point in the east and St Clement's Island in the west with a stop at the fabled St Michael's Mount. Wildlife experiences on the Bay Discovery can be just as extensive as anywhere else and sometimes remarkable - seals, basking sharks, sunfish, dolphins and porpoises have all been spotted, as well as a minke whale early this summer! A trip more suitable for families with younger children, or those looking for a tase of West Cornwall's marine environment.
On purchasing this experience you will receive a voucher valid for 12 months. To book please call the supplier on the attached information sheet.
Departure:
Passengers must arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes prior to departure and must contact the skipper 24 hours before their trip to confirm the time of departure.
Restrictions:
There are no fitness requirements but we cannot accommodate wheelchair users. Make sure you dress warmly and as these trips are a must for any marine enthusiast - please make sure you bring a camera!
You and how many others:
Your boat will carry a maximum of 12 participants - all trips are operated by experienced skippers and wildlife guides.
All passengers will be provided with automatic inflating lifejackets and full waterproofs. You will have a secure internal seat and be given a full safety briefing as you embark. It is extremely rare for customers to feel ill on the boat (it has been likened to road journeys in that lots of people feel sick in the car, but you never hear of anyone getting travel sick on a motorbike); however, if you are very prone to seasickness, it might be wise to take a couple of anti-sea sickness pills before you set off. Nothing can spoil any boat ride more than being sick! It is recommended that you wear high factor sun protection, even on cloudy days, and that you wear sunglasses. All year round, even in summer, it feels cooler out on the water, so make sure you layer up: in autumn, winter and spring, thermals, gloves and a hat are also a good idea!
Important: A trip on a RIB is an exhilarating experience. However it can sometimes be a wet and bumpy ride so it is not for everyone.
Trips are not suitable for the very overweight, anyone who has back/neck problems or pregnant women.
The Boat
Our boat is licensed by the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency) to catagory 4, which means we are able to carry 12 passengers up to 20 miles from any safe harbour. We carry all the necessary safety equipment, which includes a 14 person liferaft and all passengers will be seated on secure internal seats. The boat is a 8 metre Halmatic Pacific 24, which is the same model operated by the navies of the world, the police and other professional organisations. It has a 440hp Yanmar inboard diesel engine coupled to a jet drive. We also carry an auxiliary outboard engine.
Weather:
All ocean-going trips rely on the weather - the time of the trips can vary as they are dependant upon tides. However if your trip is cancelled due to weather conditions, we will be happy to re-book your experience for another day.
