Overview
- Flights are in the Bulldog ("Top Gun") or Extra300 ("Ultimate Top Gun"), and are 40 minutes long.
- Ground Briefing is approx 45 minutes, includes all safety/parachute procedures, and how to fly aerobatics and air combat (yourself!)
- Flights are tailored to you; the trip is as wild, or mild, as you choose! If there are any particularly manoeuvres you would like to try, please let us know!
Profile of your Day
- Welcome and kit out into flying suits and military bone-domes. You choose your call-sign name badge ("Maverick", "Iceman" etc) for the day.
- Pre-flight group briefing (2-4 people) - including safety/parachute brief, how to fly the aircraft, aerobatics and introduction to tailchasing manoeuvres.
- Students are matched into Top Gun "pairs".
- Each pair receives a personal sortie pre-brief with your ex-military instructor pilot.
- Strap on parachute. Cockpit Controls and Safety Brief at aircraft.
- Flight: includes instructor demonstration and student practice for each manoeuvre (see descriptions below).
- Exit aircraft and "pair" debrief with your instructors, including no. g pulled, review of tailchase results and signed flight certificate.
Flight Profile - Top Gun Experience (Bulldog Aircraft)
- You sit next to your instructor in the cockpit.
- Formation take-off (2 aircraft)
- Formation close manoeuvrering in the climb
- Demonstration and practice of effects of controls and aerobatics manoeuvres
- 'Hands on stick' time - opportunity for you to fly some aerobatics yourself
- Demo & practice tail-chase with other aeroplane - 'shoot the bandit'
- Instructor talks you through Return to Base - fighter pilot rejoin to land
Flight Profile - Ultimate Top Gun Experience (Extra300 Aircraft)
- You sit in the front of the aircraft, and your your instructor sits in the back.
- Formation take-off (2 aircraft)
- Formation close manoeuvrering in the climb
- Demonstration and practice of effects of controls and aerobatics manoeuvres
- 'Hands on stick' time - opportunity for you to fly some aerobatics yourself
- Demo & practice tail-chase with other aeroplane - 'shoot the bandit' and smoke
- Instructor talks you through Return to Base - fighter pilot rejoin to land
When Can you go:
- Flights take place most Fridays and Saturdays, March-November inclusive. Additional days are available if you book as a pair.
How long does the Activity last:
Please allow 3-4 hours for this experience.
Restrictions:
Extra 300: Minimum age 12. Weight limit is 16 stone. Minimum height 5ft Maximum Height 6ft 5" No experience necessary. You will be required to complete a Medical Self-Certification Form (available on request) before flying with us - if you have any doubts you should contact your GP. If you are over 55, as a formality, we will require a letter from your doctor confirming your suitability to fly with us
Bulldog: Weight limit is 20 stone. Maximum Height 6ft 5"
Dress:
It is essential that you wear light flat shoes with good grips – trainers are ideal. We shall kit you out in genuine military flying suits - please wear comfortable casual clothes to go underneath - ie trousers/ shorts, T shirt, and sweater. Ladies should not wear skirts/ dresses. It is a good idea to bring a light jacket as it can be exposed on the airfield. Please note that changing facilities are limited. Loose objects (including cameras) are not allowed in the aircraft cockpit. Before entering the aircraft, you will be asked to empty your pockets of keys, change etc, and remove any jewellery (other than watches and stud earrings). Valuables can either be safekept in our crew room or left in your car.
